A Case for Our
Lady of Mount Carmel Elementary School
Why select Our Lady
of Mount Carmel School as the institution of learning for your child?
As a former public school administrator, a basis to compare public
school education with Catholic education has evolved over the last few
years.
First,
the educational process that exists in our small, but proud school
revolves around a tightly knit community of students, teachers and
parents. Individually and collectively, everyone is working toward a
common goal - the building of a "whole" human being: that is to be
achieved through academic excellence, moral and spiritual
responsibility and strength of character. Self discipline and respect
for others is strongly emphasized and all students are taught to accept
responsibility for their actions. The religion classes, which are an
integral part of a rigorous curriculum, support and promote high ideals
and stress the importance of recognizing the presence of Christ in the
lives of the students and in the lives of others.
Second,
academically the children are held to a high standard of achievements,
which carries over to all related activities. This is reflected in the
high percentage of students who earn honor roll status, and perform
very well in their standardized tests. In addition to the core of
academic subjects, the children have classes in Art, Music, Computers,
Spanish, Library, and Physical Education. The achievement level and the
exceptionally high quality of the projects and programs produced by the
children in their 'specials' have been truly amazing.
Third,
at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School parents assume a major role in the
education of their children and are very much at the center of their
child's experiences. The research is quite clear that there is a direct
correlation between the involvement of the parents and the social,
spiritual, and academic success of the child. At Our Lady of Mount
Carmel School all faculty and staff members are encouraged to be
positive and receptive to active parental involvement. We are cognizant
and appreciative of the efforts, time and support offered by the
parents.
Finally,
at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School we are not satisfied with the status
quo mentality: we are striving to find ways to improve our educational
programs. We need to become more aware and more adept in meeting the
needs of our children. Furthermore, we will continue to emphasize the
integration of academic excellence and religious values, which is the
major characteristic that serves as the basis for distinguishing
Catholic schools from public schools.
God Bless,
