Mission Statement

Our Lady of Mount Carmel School seeks to serve the needs of the children of the parish and surrounding area. In keeping with the directives of the Second Vatican Council and the philosophy of St. John Bosco, patron of education and friend of youth, through environment instruction, we strive for the integral Christian Formation of the young, encouraging them to be responsible and committed members of the faith community, concerned with the advancement of all, according to God's plan.

History

Our Lady of Mount Carmel School was founded in 1938 and began with a kindergarten class under the guidance of the Salesian Sisters. Not having a building to accommodate the children, the first kindergarten classes were held in the basement of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, located in Roseto, Pennsylvania.

As the enrollment increased, a new site was needed. Under the leadership of Father Ducci, the land across the street from the church, the current site of Pius X High School, was selected. The building was to house grades one through five; however, in 1948 again under the leadership of Father Ducci and Father Leone, three additional grades were added.

Through efforts of a dedicated group of local residents and the clergy, Our Lady of Mount Carmel School graduated its first class of eight graders in 1951. Under Father Leone's leadership and through the dedication of community members, enrollment continued to increase. The present site of Our Lady of Mount Carmel School opened its doors in 1953.

Since 1953, there have been additions to the building, occurring in 1960, 1990 and in 2002 a new library was added. In light of its history, Our Lady of Mount Carmel School is one of the oldest Catholic schools in the area and is staffed by teachers certified in American Colleges and Universities. Since its inception, Our Lady of Mount Carmel School has expanded its curriculum and offers programs which are designed to challenge the children spiriutally and academically. To broaden their horizons, after-school programs and clubs are provided to assist the children in developing their individual talents. An array of activities is also available to stimulate the interests in the sciences, technology, the arts, music and drama.
